The CAD Designer 1 supports the engineering staff by developing production and service part drawings from existing 3-D data. Occasionally, the Designer 1 will be called upon to generate manufacturable concept solutions for commercial and/or military products and providing 3-D and 2-D renderings of the preliminary design, formal design, and final design. The CAD Designer 1 must have experience working with at least one of the following vehicle areas: chassis, powertrain, body, or electrical components/harnessing. The designer 1 must be capable of intelligently defining space claims to provide vehicle harmony.

  • Design and development of products and components utilizing 3-D CAD techniques.
  • Utilize and maintain models according to company standards and/or best practices.
  • Develop drawings and designs for equipment specifications, engineering notes, sketches and/or existing drawings to ensure they meet applicable standards.
  • Prepare design layouts of equipment to meet required specifications; create complex assembly, outline, detail and other required drawings and bills of materials.
  • Select appropriate materials in conjunction with engineering.
  • Distribute as required, engineering documentation, Engineering Change Notice (ECNs), drawings, and/or specifications electronically or by paper.
  • Prepare tolerance stack-ups and establish fits and tolerances consistent with sound design practice and engineering standards.
  • Check layouts, assemblies, details, bills of material and other related drawings and documents.
  • Analyze design for conformity to standard industry and engineering department practices.
  • Review design for optimum simplicity and economy of manufacture; coordinate with other designers, product engineers, purchasing, manufacturing engineering, and field service personnel.
  • Complete all CAD work required to process Engineering Change Notices (ECNs) including 3-D model creation / modification and any 2-D drawing creation / modification that may be required; ensure adherence to all CAD and drafting standards.
  • CAD Designer I works under the direct supervision of engineering team leader.

  • Associate' s Degree in Engineering, Drafting, or Machine Design - At least 2 years of CAD modeling experience.
  • Certificate in CAD Design from an accredited school.
  • This position requires US citizenship.
  • Minimal travel requirements (~5%).
