Job Summary
Under the direction of the lead electrical engineer or project manager, this position will work in a project team environment with other engineers and designers involved in the design, modification, and analysis of new and existing electrical systems. This position will assist in investigating, trouble-shooting, and solving a wide variety of electrical engineering issues. Assists the lead electrical engineer or project manager in efforts to ensure projects are completed satisfactorily, on time, and within budget. Responsible for calculations, system design, equipment selections, reports, progress submittals, and specifications required to assure project completeness and accuracy. Performs risk assessments and ensure compliance with safety standards and electrical engineering codes.
Principal Responsibilities
- Design portions of a project related to electrical systems according to code,
- Research resources for commercially available equipment,
- Assist with coordinating design and schedule with other disciplines such as architectural, structural, mechanical, technology, and equipment suppliers,
- Assist with documenting design decisions, meetings, and instructions from client promptly while monitoring project design progress,
- Assist with review of project documents for accuracy and completeness,
- Review design methods, procedures, changes in scope, and client correspondence with the Lead Engineer,
- Conduct periodic job site observations and other services as required
- Other duties as assigned.
Skills
- Knowledge of design techniques, tools, and principles involved in production of technical plans and drawings,
- Knowledge of power systems, lighting, instrumentation and controls systems, and other electrical engineering principles,
- Proficient in MS Office products,
- Must have excellent oral and written communication skills, and
- Proven record in working successfully as part of a team in taking projects from concept through construction.
Education and Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering
- Professional Engineering License is a plus but not required. Ability to obtain license within 1-2 years of employment is desired.
- Electrical building systems design and/or knowledge of construction techniques a plus
- Minimum 5 years of experience designing and implementing electrical systems for industrial and/or municipal facilities. Experience should include the following:
- Medium voltage (up to 12.4KV) and 480 Volt distribution
- Motor control centers, variable frequency drives
- Lighting systems
- Instrumentation/control and SCADA
- On-Site testing, system startup and troubleshooting experience
