Employee Relations Specialist

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced human resources professional to be part of our Employee & Labor Relations team that is responsible for employee relations that contributes to a fair, respectful, diverse, and high-performance culture. This seasoned ER professional, under the direction of the Manager of HR Operations, will work closely with company and Stanford University colleagues to ensure consistency of treatment and application of University HR policies, will be generally responsible for point of contact activities related to workplace investigations, consistent application of policy and procedure, and coordinating efforts with other members of the HRD&S team.

In addition to core duties responsibilities may include the following:  

•         Work in consultation with Human Resource Business Partners to resolve issues;

•         Investigate employee relations issues and initiate appropriate action to address and resolve issues;

•         Maintain accurate documentation of all investigations;

•         Interpret and administer Personnel Policies;

•         Coach and advise employees, managers and supervisors on individual and organizational employee relations issues.

•         Provide support to the ER/LR team

•         Draft disciplinary notices in conjunction with line management

•         Research issues, trends and practices in Labor/Employee Relations and recommend programs that will enhance employee and labor relations.

                Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

•             Bachelor's degree in human resources, industrial psychology, business, psychology, or other related field;

•             Extensive relevant experience in employee and labor relations;

•             Ability to make sound judgments requiring confidentiality, tact, and diplomacy;

•             Demonstrated ability to be accountable for decisions and difficult judgment calls;

•             Demonstrated experience working and communicating effectively with others;

•             Successful track record of establishing credibility and trust with a diverse group, including employees, supervisors, various levels of management and colleagues;

•             Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills;

•             Demonstrated skills in project management;

•             Excellent verbal and written communication skills;

•             Demonstrated knowledge of employment laws;

•             Demonstrated skills in working successfully with all levels of an organization, including senior leadership as well as rank and file union members;

•             Proficiency with computer applications, including Word and Excel; experience using email and the internet.
