Position Purpose

Plans, directs, and coordinates through direct reports and contractors the activities concerned with construction, modification, and maintenance of plant equipment.

Essential Functions
  • Overall responsibility for machine repair and equipment Total Preventative Maintenance (TPM) implementation and management
  • Ensure Overall Equipment Effectiveness and measure and report related metrics such as increased first pass yield, increased equipment uptime, lower cost of poor quality and lower non-conformance reports
  • Answer and address Andon alerts associated with all equipment
  • Assist Operations Engineering Launch Team with equipment design and run-off
  • Establish maintenance procedures for new equipment
  • Establish and maintain spare parts inventory for all equipment
  • Maintain machine and sensor calibration
  • Coordinator or perform  Weld equipment cleaning and maintenance and furnace maintenance
  • Prepare and manages expense and capital budgets related to repair of existing equipment and installation of new equipment
  • Plan, prioritize and coordinate new and existing equipment related projects and requests with direct reports, outside contractors, and internal customers
  • Support and interact with Environmental Health and Safety on issues involving air quality, noise levels, emergency response and potential OSHA violations
  • Coordinate activities of members involved in repairs and maintenance of equipment to minimize interruption of plant operations and ensure improved efficiency
  • Align individual and team/departmental goals to support overall organizational goals. Motivate and recognizes members on achievements
  • Responsible for maintaining staffing requirements and interviewing and selecting of new members

Other Functions
  • Support other groups or divisions within  with expertise and manpower to the extent possible when critical situations arise
  • Participate on committees and councils to the extent required

  • General understanding of lean manufacturing principles and applicable manufacturing processes, such as automated equipment and vision systems
  • Strong knowledge of skilled trades functions, building/construction trades, building safety codes, and construction and shop materials
  • Strong knowledge of performing electrical and mechanical troubleshooting and maintenance on manufacturing equipment
  • Strong people, time management, multitasking and project management skills
  • Strong leadership and organizational skills
  • Ability to coach, mentor and motivate members to perform
  • Excellent communication skills (written and verbal) and the ability to organize and direct outside contractors
  • Basic computer skills (MS office - Word, Excel, etc.) and applicable company computer system capability
  • Computer programming, advanced mathematics (i.e. trigonometry, calculus), control theory, dynamic system analysis (i.e. vibration, frequency response)
  • Proficiency in reading and generating mechanical drawings, hydraulic, electrical and electronic schematics
  • Demonstrates proficiency with a wide range of precision mechanical and electrical measurement devices
  • Ability to specify, set up and operate a wide range of electronic instrumentation to meet test requirements

Education or Formal Training

High school diploma or equivalent and completion of advanced technical courses and certifications or related degree

Experience Required
  • Previous leadership experience with direct reports required
  • Experience in performing electrical and mechanical troubleshooting and maintenance on manufacturing equipment required Materials and Equipment Used
  • Various hand tools, test instruments, small power tools and personal computer

Working Environment/ Physical Activities
  • Strength Strenuous work requires exertion of 50 lbs. of work force and occasionally up to 100 lbs. of work force
  • Physical Environment - All areas of the facility
  • Work is routinely inside and outside with exposure to rotating and moving machine components, pressurized vessels/plumbing, high temperatures, electricity and oil
  • Work can be at heights, in cramped or confined spaces
  • Chemical/Hazardous Materials Environment - Some occasional exposure to various chemicals
  • Must work overtime and some weekends with short notice
  • Must be flexible to a variety of facilities and work tasks
