Overview
Responsible for administration and performance of all machine shop activities.  General duties within the department include: administration of company policies; employee training; quality and continuous improvement of department operations and processes; establishing departmental objectives and plans in accordance with company goals; and implementation of department plans.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Manages all machine shop operations, either directly or through subordinates, for the purpose of meeting production, delivery, quality, cost and safety objectives
  • Responsible for maintaining daily production schedules, workflow and quality standards of each machine shop group or cell
  • Monitors labor hours and overtime, plans work, delegates duties, makes work assignments, oversees training shop personnel and implements improvement plans and time management with staff
  • Plans and implements 5-S and continuous improvement activities for all shop operations
  • Develops and maintains personnel requirements for department based on current and projected production needs
  • Plans and administers procedures and work instructions for primary activities within department in accordance with company’ s ISO 9001 Quality Management System
  • Maintains and upgrades, as necessary, through support personnel, all tooling, machinery, computers and software used by department
  • Interacts with other departments as necessary on new tooling needs, document changes, new product performance, product improvements and various other support issues
  • Ensuring production output meet quality standards and expectations
  • Monitors output and root cause for any issues associated with output not meeting expectation
  • Liaison between engineering and production departments to ensure optimal communication and partnering
  • Resolves nonconformance issues including documentation of associated rework
  • Enforces cost reduction processes and efficiency improvement measures
  • Develops a safety-first culture and lead team by example
  • Performs other related duties as required and assigned
Education and Experience
  • High School diploma required
  • Training in mechanical engineering or related technical field preferred but not required
  • 10+ years related high volume production machine shop experience
  • Proficient in tooling design and CNC programming
  • Aerospace or manufacturing experience preferred
  • Able to demonstrate hands-on capability with programming and machining
  • Strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills, both oral and written
  • Proven ability to adapt to fluctuating work assignments and fast paced environments
  • Detail-oriented with sound judgment, great follow-through and initiative
  • Demonstrated ability to work well in a team environment, proactive, and work independently
  • Ability to effectively communicate (verbal and written) with Engineering and Production teams
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook
  • Excellent interpersonal, coaching, and leadership skills
