The candidate is responsible for modeling and drafting mechanical systems and subsystems, creates mechanical drawings, and designs mechanical equipment weldments, assemblies and installations. Creates BOMs, researches and models vendor supplied components and checks drawings. Also, interfaces with Lead Designers on large assembly model integration.

Essential Functions and Duties

Assumes Responsibility for the Design of Mechanical Systems:
  • Analyze design proposals, specification and requirements.
  • Stays informed of new technologies, trends and regulations in mechanical design. 
  • Applies  innovative   technologies to designs.
  • Organize test programs to validate design.
  • Ensures safety regulations and requirements are met.

Assumes Responsibility for Establishing and Maintaining Effective Communication, Coordination, and Working Relationships with Area Staff and Management:
  • Delegates and prioritizes responsibilities of area staff.
  • Interacts with engineering team to assess machine functions and compliance to system specifications.
  • Tracks and resolves problems promptly and effectively.
  • Obtains and conveys information as needed.

Assumes Responsibility for Establishing and Maintaining Effective Communication, Coordination, and Working Relationships with Customers, Suppliers, and Outside Contacts:
  • Maintains client relationships. 
  • Interprets and implements customer needs.
  • Ensures that outside parties are well informed of operations and schedules.
  • Maintains relationships with regional government officials and procures necessary official documents.
  • Projects and maintains the Company’ s professional reputation.

Assumes Responsibility for Related Duties as Required or Assigned:
  • Ensures that work area is clean, secure, and well maintained.
  • Completes special projects as assigned.
  • Attends meetings and professional conferences as required.

Performance Measurements:
  • Day to day operation of mechanical design team runs smoothly and timely.
  • Good business relationships exist with customers and contractors. 
  • Concerns are promptly addressed and  problems effectively resolved.
  • Projects are completed in a timely manner.
  • Innovative new processes and systems are developed.
  • Research and development is conducted using standard procedures, and according to effective and efficient practices.
  • Management is kept appropriately informed of area activities and of any significant problems. 
  • Recommendations for improvements in policies and procedures are provided.
  • Safety regulations and requirements are met.

  • High School diploma or equivalent; technical school mechanical design program or associates degree; combination of  equivalent training and experience.

Experience Required: 
  • 3+ years mechanical design.   

  • Ability to operate computer applications; MS Word, Excel, AutoCAD  and other engineering software.
  • Ability to prioritize work, well organized, good communication skills. 
  • Knowledge of IEEE code requirements.
  • Must be experienced (2, 000+) in UGNX and Teamcenter or similar modeling & PDM software.
  • Must have experience designing sheet metal and welded parts and assemblies.
  • Large assembly model management experience a plus.
  • Must work well in a fast paced, team oriented environment.
  • Will work closely with engineers to develop designs from concept, through detailed modeling and drafting and release for production builds.
  • Should be a self-starter and able to work with limited supervision.
  • Locomotive, off– road equipment or transportation industry experience  is highly desirable.
