Basic Function

The Mechanical Designer, will work closely with the engineering team to support the development of state-of-the-art accelerator-based products. The Mechanical Designer will be responsible for the detailed desigFn of precision mechanical parts and assemblies including multi-pole magnets, ultra-high vacuum (UHV) components, optical systems, support structures, etc... The Mechanical Designer will also be responsible generating bill of materials, processing design changes and releasing documents. Additional responsibilities may include assembling and testing of new parts, assemblies and systems.

Responsibilities
  1. Utilize CAD SW to create mechanical models based on design specifications
  2. Detail and design mechanical parts and assemblies based on engineering requirements
  3. Perform mechanical parts tolerance analysis
  4. Utilize PDM software and best practice methods for releasing models and drawings, make design changes and track revisions
  5. Work directly with design engineers, project planners and document control
  6. Assemble first article builds and develop assembly and installation procedures as needed
  7. Precision alignment and troubleshooting of existing systems and parts
  8. Work on other duties as assigned by supervisor

Skills
  1. Design mechanical parts and assemblies from concept
  2. Detail and draft drawings using proper standards and GD&T when necessary
  3. Proficiency with CAD and PDM systems, PTC products (Creo/Windchill) preferred
  4. Practical hands on experience designing and assembling parts
  5. Knowledge or experience in precision mechanical design for UHV, RF cavities, optics a big plus
  6. Strong computer and math skills
  7. Strong verbal, written and communication abilities
  8. Adept at using Microsoft Office Suite and Adobe Acrobat
  9. Desire to learn more and continuously make improvements

Education/Training

BS or AA in Mechanical Engineering or Design&Drafting

Experience

5+ years relevant experience in technology driven environment
