Job Description


Zachry Group is currently accepting applications for a Piping Designer II for our Hammond Engineering and Design office location.
This is a great opportunity to get involved in some interesting and challenging design projects.

Ability to complete basic piping design in accordance with Industry Practices using 2D CAD & 3D E3D Software and/or other 3D Design software.
Ability to model in E3D or other 3D software for basic and detailed equipment in conjunction with vendor document review.
Prepare plot plans, equipment location drawings, flow diagrams, Process and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs) and other related engineering/design drawings
Prepare construction documents which includes General Arrangements, Piping Isometrics, Piping Plans, Material Take Offs
Update and support maintaining Piping tracking tools
Facilitate Software Administrator requests to support on the job pipe spec updates, pipe support updates, and other requests to support the 3D software design including basic understanding of required Mechanical Design inputs.
Initiate conceptual physical design requirements in coordination with appropriate responsible supervisors and engineers
Prepare design sketches for use by drafting personnel
Create design sketches, layouts, and notes from field walkdowns
Ability to create as built P&IDs from field walkdowns
Develop stress packages to submit to Stress Engineering, with understanding on continuations and required details on existing supports, guides, anchors, etc. impact system flexibility
Work with Stress Engineers to optimize layouts on hot lines
Basic ability to import and use/navigate a laser scan with LFM.
Understand basics of 3D model reviews, key project milestones, and basic understanding of the checking and Quality process.
Create CAD drawings (Isometrics and Piping Plans) from designer layouts or sketches
Ability to prepare documents and packages with all required references for checking
Incorporate/Backdraft comments on drawings based on designer/checker comments
Ability to add details to piping documents based on P&IDs including understanding construction and process driven notes.
Prepare detailed tie in lists with field notes and P&IDs and minimal direction
Review changes and be able to provide input to Leads/Supervisors
Ability to do detailed valve take offs from P&IDs
Ability to help with general photo annotation
Advanced understanding of pipe supports and piping design constructability
Understanding of basic structural design
Initiate conceptual physical design requirements in coordination with appropriate responsible supervisors and engineers
Perform all other duties as assigned

High school diploma or Associates Degrees with drafting courses
7+ years of experience and knowledge in the design requirements for respective discipline as they apply to petrochemical, refining, pharmaceutical, or power plant construction projects
Minimum 2 years working in a 3D software on detailed engineering projects.
Deeper understanding of how major equipment and inline instrumentation work together
Proficiency in Microsoft Suite including Teams and Adobe/Bluebeam.
Basic knowledge of a FEL/FEED staged process including differences on execution between early FEL/FEED and detailed design.
Basic understanding of equipment layout considerations of access associated with maintenance and operations
Understanding of master P&ID mark-up process and maintaining the master copy.
Basic understanding of field constructability with respect to field/field fit welds, sloped piping, support installation/stack up, inline component installation, general understanding of pipe fit up practices, etc.
Understanding of basic stress flexibility principles especially on use of anchors and guides and how they function
More detailed knowledge of major types of fixed equipment (Towers, Vessels, Heat Exchangers, Reactors, Tanks, etc.) and of major rotating equipment (Pumps, Compressors, Blowers, etc.)
More detailed knowledge of and key design requirements of instrumentation (PSVs, automated valves, Control Valves, Pressure, Temperature, Level, Flow, etc.)
Basic understanding of industry codes and requirements
Strong attention to detail and ability to prepare design concepts, technical documents, and drawings
Basic ability to communicate information and ideas verbally and in writing

More advanced experience working with major fixed and rotating equipment and typical instrumentation in the field.
Understanding of and experience working “hands on” with various instrumentation technologies associated with piping systems
Experience working with supervisors
Some basic field construction support experience

Job Pay Rate: $35.00- $50.00/Hour
