Principal Mechanical Designer
100 W Walnut Street 5th Floor Pasadena, California 91124 | Contract
Immediate opening for a Principal Mechanical Designer to complete highly-technical, and complex design assignments for wastewater treatment plant equipment and facilities, utilizing 2D and 3D CAD methods, including AutoCAD MEP and REVIT. Technical skills gained from education/training and experience over many years enable this level of Designer to work independently and complete the most demanding design assignments. May serve as Lead Designer on a small to medium-sized project.
You will complete complex and difficult designs and layouts for complete wastewater systems and components of the project. You will work very closely with the lead mechanical engineer and coordinate with other discipline leads to ensure designs are comprehensive and well-coordinated. Assignments typically involve design elements for which there may be no clearly established precedents and require anticipation of problems at the outset in order to provide appropriate solutions.
Performs front-end layout and detailed design of complex systems and equipment applicable to the respective discipline.
Ensures compliance with required specifications, tolerances, safety factors, and client requirements.
Performs specialized design computations and analysis within a given discipline.
Performs interdisciplinary reviews and provides coordination of data to ensure a compatible design.
Understands and applies commonly used company design standards and methods. May assist in the establishment or revision of guidelines and standards.
Reviews supplier data and supplier/manufacturer drawings, as required.
Checks orthographic (2D) and isometric (3D) drawings prepared by others. May provide direction to a team of checking personnel, ensuring the mathematical accuracy of the drawings produced.
Collaborates with Engineers and other engineering disciplines to ensure quality of design.
Assists in training lower-level Designers in various procedures.
May serve as Lead Designer on a project, ensuring compliance with industry codes, as well as project and company standards. May prepare manpower estimates, as required.
Performs other responsibilities associated with this position as may be appropriate.
• 2-year technical degree or certificate of completion from an accredited designer/drafter course (or equivalent) is preferred
• 10+ years of relevant experience with 2D and 3D mechanical design of wastewater systems using AutoCAD MEP and REVIT.
• Job leadership experience would be helpful
• Requirements include strong PC and CAD skills, as well as efficiency in utilizing computer software to complete design assignments.
