Project Architect / Junior Project Manager

Project Management:

Project Architect works with the Project Manager to develop the following skills:
  • Responsible for the coordination, planning and actions of  staff and consultants, during the project design, design development, construction document preparation, and construction phases of moderately complex to relatively simple, small scaled and not technically demanding projects.
  • Responsible to represent company at project related client meetings, team meetings, and construction meetings during the project.
  • Responsible for the determination or the assistance of other senior staff in the determination of project fees, development of contracts, client interaction, organization and collections during the project process.

Project Design Coordination:
  • Based upon prior design work prepared by other design staff, organize and understand the project’ s design intent, project needs and requirements, and overall project objectives. 
  • Based upon this information, using architectural skills and experience, coordinate the interaction of the project team’ s technical and design staff to further develop the project design and transition the project documents from design concepts and level of completion to thoroughly developed and complete project documents meeting the contractual and client expectations.
  • This process typically includes the origination of architectural solutions to create detailed site plans, floor plans, building elevations, sections details, schedules and all other aspects of the creative process of developing a complete unique building based upon client needs, desires, and direction. 

Project Technical Drawing Preparation and Coordination:
  • During the design development and construction document preparation processes, coordinate and direct the work of other  staff, consultants, and other engineers under the clients contract to prepare and coordinate accurate and complete contract drawings, documents, and specifications that allow the project to obtain building permits from the required administrative agencies. 
  • During this phase of work, Project Architects are required to exercise independent judgment and decision making based upon their technical expertise and experience to meet the client needs and expectations on projects.
  • Project Architects are expected to exercise judgment based upon their experience to plan and execute a projects scope and phases of work within the hours and dollars budgeted during prior contract negotiation.
  • These prior contracts may be prepared by other senior staff with or without the input of the Manager. 
  • During the projects duration, if additional services beyond the original scope are requested by the client, Project Architect is expected to identify these requests, coordinate and assist senior staff with the preparation of client additional services requests.
  • When necessary personally prepare and draw the project deliverables as required to complete the design development and construction documents for the project.

Project Construction Administration:
  • During the construction phase of project, Project Architect shall prepare and attend project related needs in the Bidding and Construction phases of the project.
  • Attend project team meetings on the construction site as necessary to direct, ensure and coordinate the construction of the project in conformance with industry standards, the requirements of the project drawings, and the expectations of the client.
  • Process or have processed under their direct supervision contractor shop drawings, requests for information, change orders, extra services, requests for information, progress billings and job site reviews during the course of construction on the project.
  • Prepare the project final completion punch list and the project certificate of substantial completion.
  • Review of the project as built drawings and coordination of these drawings and documentation with the client.

Team Management:
  • Attend periodic team wide project scheduling meetings to present project staff needs, determine staff availability, and schedule staff resources to meet individual project needs.

Project / Team Financial Management:

Project Architect works with the Project Manager to develop the following skills:
  • Assist other senior staff in the development of project budgets and financial goals.
  • Monitor and direct project team staff on the meeting of project performance goals, hours estimates, extra services identification and requests, collections activities on project specific basis.
  • Assist senior staff when requested in processing of project billing drafts and invoice reviews.

Supervisory Responsibilities:
  • Minimal supervisory responsibilities associated with position. 
  • Occasionally non-supervisory employees working with the Project Architect may be reporting directly to this position.

Qualifications:

Education and Experience:
  • At least 3 years of experience is required to successfully perform this job. 
  • At minimum a one-year certificate from college or technical school; or three to six months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience is required. 
  • Associate’ s degree (A.A) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; or six months to one year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience preferred.

Communication Skills:
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals. 
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. 
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.

Mathematical Skills:
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. 
  • Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

Reasoning Ability:
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. 
  • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

Licenses:
  • Architectural license preferred but not required.

Additional Skills:
  • Must be proficient in computer use and computer-aided design software. Specific expertise in the following programs is required:  AutoCAD, Revit, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Acrobat, Microsoft Office Professional programs including Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint and others.
  • General knowledge of general office business computer systems and software.
