The candidate  is responsible for supporting both simple and complex programming and set-up on the coordinate measuring machine (CMM).  The goal of this position is to promote improvements in the areas of quality inspections for tools, gauges, and stamped components in the Tool Room, Business Unit Transmission Technologies at the Wooster, Ohio facility. 

Formal Pre-Requisites for the Position

  • Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerances (GD&T).
  • Blueprint reading.
  • Knowledgable in CMM operation.
  • Familiar with stamping and forming processes and respective tooling.
  • Possesses a diverse background in manufacturing, machine shop, and quality lab.
  • Metrology.                      

  • Ability to prioritize and multitask.
  • Excellent communication ability (written & verbal).
  • Detail oriented and highly organized.
  • Self-driven to achieve results.                                                                   

  • Associate degree in a related technical field or successful completion of a technical apprenticeship or journeyman’ s card.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Responsible for writing CMM programs to support all inspection activities in the Tool Center. 
  • Use a multitude of measuring equipment that will include but are not limited to CMM, surfometer, contracer, micrometers, calipers, and vision system. 
  • Review CMM output for accuracy, make determination and utilize second measurement methods when required. 
  • Research and develop new measurement methods as needed for the ever changing product and tooling portfolio. 
  • This person must have the ability to work both independently and in a team environment because they will need to interact frequently with the various design departments to determine the best measurement method. 
  • It is important to have a solid understanding of the function of the parts in the assembly so the important features are understood. 
  • This person will be required to write purchase requisitions when needed for maintenance of the equipment and for purchasing supplies. 
  • Will interact with their counterparts in other Tool Centers to share information and programs as needed.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, talk, have close visual acuity and  hear. The employee is frequently required to use hands to maneuver objects, tools.  The employee is occasionally required to walk; reach with hands and arms; stoop, bend, push, pull,  kneel, or  crouch.  The employee must regularly lift and move up to 10 pounds, occasionally lift and move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and move up to 65 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.

This position is required to know and understand the current specifications of the Quality Policy and procedures, as well as the Safety and Environment Policy and procedures and contribute to the achievement of the company objectives.  In addition to the duties listed above, the position holder must carry out tasks assigned by his supervisor that are essentially related to his duties.
