Major Purpose:
  • Prepares complex circuit board layouts to meet the physical and performance constraints imposed by electrical, mechanical, and environmental project requirements.
  • Responsible for new proposal data input as required by the design supervisor.
  • Acts as liaison between vendors and/or other PPI engineering and support departments.
  • Manages designs from start to release, utilizing internal or external support resources.
  • Oversees all aspect of design while reporting status as required to Supervisor, PCB Design Group.

Major Functions:
  • Maintains and defines library symbols and footprints per electrical engineering guidelines.
  • Prepares detailed layouts of the printed circuit board and establishes all electrical functionality (current carrying, isolation requirements, stack-up, etc.)
  • Prepares all necessary artwork /electronic data required for the complete fabrication of the printed circuit board.
  • Generates complete assembly drawings and prepares parts list IAW customer requirements to permit parts procurement and assembly.
  • Interfaces with PCB manufacturers to resolve any problems related to design.
  • Interfaces with mechanical and electrical engineering to establish physical and electrical parameters to meet packaging requirements.
  • Reviews electronic schematic data for initial appraisal of proposed design and estimates hours to completion.
  • Responsible for adequacy and accuracy of all support documentation and proposed changes to PC boards.
  • Prepares mechanical layouts as required to establish design concepts related to PC board layouts, fabrication, and assembly documentation.
  • Resolves technical issues related to PCB design and assists design group with solutions.
  • Manage all aspects of PCB Design(s) from start to finish utilizing internal or external support resources.
  • Reports status of work in process as required by supervisor.

Technical Functions/Skills:

  • Expert using Cadence software: OrCAD Capture CIS, OrCAD PCB Editor and Allegro PCB Designer are a must.
  • Expert with the knowledge and application of Mil-Specifications and contracting.
  • Expert with the knowledge and application of IPC Standards.
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills are required.
  • Must manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Expert using PCB design software tools.

Education and Experience:
  • IPC Certified.
  • High school graduate or equivalent (G.E.D.) plus specialized technical training.
  • Minimum 10+ years general experience directly related to PCB/PWA design.
  • PCB Supervision experience desired.
