The Technical Writer writes and/or revises ATA-compliant Component Maintenance Manuals (CMMs). Must have a thorough knowledge of English grammar, syntax, punctuation and spelling, be able to pay meticulous attention to details, and be committed to producing quality products.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Authors technical manuals via an electronic authoring system.
  • Draws upon advanced technical authoring skills to resolve complex technical issues associated with technical authoring support and analysis.
  • Has knowledge of commonly-used concepts, practices, and procedures within aviation maintenance and operations manuals.
  • Must know how to do BOM and parts breakdowns.
  • Performs advanced technical writing and production tasks associated with technical manuals.
  • Performs research assignments with or without customer interaction. Interacts with customers through oral or written communication.
  • Performs proofreading of technical manuals with an emphasis on correct grammar, punctuation, spelling, and writing clarity.
  • Will perform substantive editing tasks to seek out inconsistencies in style, locate errors, and check cross references of information for accuracy to ensure projects are error-free.
  • With minimal guidance from management, may evaluate client requests to determine the degree of difficulty, be able to review job packages for completeness and accuracy of the source data, and be able to quote time to accomplish the work.
  • Must be able to meet established deadlines

  • B.A. or B.S. (as applicable) in Computer Science, Electro-Mechanical Engineering, English, or Communications. 
  • Continuing education certification a plus.
  • XML/SGML experience a plus.
  • Minimum five years experience in aerospace industry.
  • Strong Electro-Mechanical ability to read / understand / interpret engineering drawings and other engineering documents.
  • Must be proficient in the use of Simplified Technical English.
  • Must be able to learn new software programs effectively.
  • Strong communication skills as well as a high degree of creativity, ingenuity and business judgment are required.
