Test Engineer - Electrical

Essential Functions:
  • Designs, supports, improves and tests high complexity test systems and equipment. 
  • Ensures designs meet manufacturability, testability and reliability criteria. Independently troubleshoots/analyzes system problems.
  • Plans, schedules and coordinates detailed phases of a major project.
  • Performs work which involves conventional engineering practices and standards, but includes a variety of complex features, such as conflicting design requirements, non-standard tools, materials, or equipment and difficult coordination requirements.
  • Promotes and implements process improvements. 
  • Evaluates and defines engineering processes and procedures.
  • Participates in creation and evaluation of new product test requirements, test methods and strategies; provides estimates for new test equipment.

Additional Functions:
  • May provide repair and maintenance support of test systems.
  • May fabricate test systems as required.
  • May participate in international and multi-site projects.

Possible Functions:
  • Design and support of moderate and high complexity circuit assemblies and systems.
  • Solid knowledge of electronic vendors, manufacturing processes, and procurement methods.
  • Train other members of the test team and production technicians on theory and design of existing and new test equipment.
  • Identify and work on leverage opportunities for designed test equipment to minimize time and cost.
  • Defines, develops, tests and supports moderate to high complexity software applications.
  • Provides guidance to users on program functioning.
  • Evaluates requests for application enhancements.
  • Expert knowledge of software development, simulation and analysis tools including editors, compilers, linkers, debuggers, code analyzers, version control systems, software testing tools etc.
  • Conducts and oversees unit testing, debugging, software/hardware integration.
  • Compiles and writes documentation of program development and subsequent revisions.
  • Provides guidance to users on program functioning.
  • Develops user manuals and training materials.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Expert engineering knowledge; complete understanding of component functions and testing requirements. 
  • Understands manufacturing processes, drawings and geometric tolerances as well as shop standards.
  • Excellent written/verbal communication skills and presentation skills; advanced technical writing skills (procedures, reports, etc.)
  • Effective time management skills.  
  • Promotes a cross-functional project team environment, communicates with customers.
  • Project lead of small teams. 
  • Participates in setting technical direction. 
  • Provides technical problems-solving guidance to others.
  • Expert use and understanding of analytic, modeling, and/or design software/tools as appropriate.
  • Expert in most applicable types of test systems.

Education, Training, and Experience:
  • Bachelor' s degree in Technical/Science or International equivalent required.
  • Master' s degree in Technical/Science or International equivalent desired.
  • Advanced Six Sigma tools knowledge required.
  • Six Sigma Green Belt training preferred.
  • Professional certifications preferred (ie. National Instruments Lab View, Test Stand Certificate, etc.).
  • Greater than 8 years professional engineering experience or a combination of experience and advanced degree required.
