Key  senior position on the project/design team - analysis & design of gas compressors for a high-speed subsurface compressor system (SCS) for gas wells.

Will execute  compressor design for designated projects from inception through specification, analysis, design, fabrication and validation testing  including supporting field validation testing  while taking advantage of the expertise of the engineering team from a design technical perspective.

Need a technical background as turbomachinery engineering lead for new development as well as developing and implementing new technologies and approaches to address application needs.

Possess genuine technical skills, willingness to listen to others, and a strong foundation of collaborating with Engineers and technologists to develop complex machinery.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Lead aero designs and participate in mechanical designs for high-speed gas compressors, including performing CFD, thermal, mechanical, stress, and structural analysis to predict and validate performance of the compressor.
  • Conceptualize and implement new compressor design which fits for different operating environments of gas wells.
  • Improve the existing compressor designs for the current version of SCS.
  • Exercise robust design to cover wide range and varying operating conditions in the gas well.
  • Apply design trade-offs to optimize the system performance, manufacturability, costs, and other design parameters.
  • Apply best practices in aerodynamic and mechanical designs to the downhole environments with liquids and solids and other adverse operating conditions.
  • Present design and validation results and recommend final designs to implement.
  • Assist mechanical design team with design work by SolidWorks.
  • Collaborate with other members of a multi-disciplinary engineering team to move the project forward efficiently.

Skills, Experience, Education, and Abilities:
  • BS/MS Mechanical Engineering with emphasis in fluid mechanics and aero design and mechanical design of compressors.
  • Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering preferred.
  • Design experiences in different types of compressors preferred.
  • Minimum 5 years professional experiences in compressor design.
  • Fluent in CFD tools, preferably Ansys CFX.
  • Structural and thermal modeling.
  • Ability to work with a multi-disciplinary team environment.
  • System integration experience specifically with electro-mechanical systems, bearings and seals a plus.
  • Some project management or coordination experience.
  • Experience with equipment for either gas or oil field applications is a plus.
  • Strong written, oral and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Must have highly perceptive listening skills and be open to ideas of others.

Physical Demands / Work Environment:
  • This position will be in an office atmosphere most of the time; however, from time to time, shop support will be required during the testing and prototyping phase of the project as well as field support during field trials.
  • Personal protective equipment should be worn in designated shop floor areas.
